Staring into Nothing

However, Obama said: “What’s also clear is this: When our government has information on a known extremist and that information is not shared and acted upon as it should have been … a systemic failure has occurred. And I consider that totally unacceptable.”

The two reviews, which Obama said got under way on Sunday, are looking at airport security procedures and the U.S. system of terror watchlists.

“It now appears that weeks ago this information was passed to a component of our intelligence community but was not effectively distributed so as to get the suspect’s name on a no-fly list,” Obama said. “Even without this one report, there were bits of information available within the intelligence community that could have and should have been pieced together.”

Had that happened, he said, “the warning signs would have triggered red flags, and the suspect would have never been allowed to board that plane for America.”

An account of the incident by this heroic filmmaker raises some different red flags.

Chaos erupted as the 32-year-old Dutchman grabbed Abdulmutallab and frantically searched him.

His right hand in bandages, Mr Schuringa said: ‘I took some kind of object that was already melting and smoking out of him. He had put something on fire that was hidden in his pants.’

Mr Schuringa shouted for water and tried to put out the flames with his hands. He said a liquid dripped on to the floor, where two pillows burst into flames.

Passengers screamed as the flight crew scrambled for fire extinguishers. ‘It went very quick,’ said Mr Schuringa. ‘I grabbed the suspect out of the seat because if he was wearing any more explosives, it would be very dangerous.

‘We took him to first class and stripped him to make sure he had no more weapons, no more bombs.’

Abdulmutallab appeared to be ‘in a trance’, he added.

He was staring into nothing. The whole plane was screaming, but the suspect, he didn’t say a word.’ When Mr Schuringa rose to get off the plane after the prisoner was led away in shackles, his fellow passengers broke out in applause

As far as the MSM is concerned, of course, you’re more likely to hear about mind control from prime-time SF melodramas than from the  nizews, which predictably is taking up the cry of more & better security to keep the skies friendly, and so forth.

Just as “lethal chemicals, plastic explosives and ceramic knives” evolved in part to evade the metal detectors, so too will new substances and materials be created to evade body scanners. Thus ever does the wheel of progress turn. When the Federal Government mans every checkpoint with a levitating ascended master whose great googly third eye pierces all the etherial layers of the transdimensional mutliverse, you can be sure that some clever bomber will find a loophole in the eighteenth dimension to scurry through. And it will still be very difficult to blow up an airplane.

Also, Abdulmutallab supposedly said he got the stuff from Yemen, which of course fits real nicely with the latest kink in the Terror War narrative.

Yemen-trained terrorists on the loose in American airplanes! At Christmas! Great googily moogily! It’s a good thing our boys are on the case over there right now, pounding the holy hell outta some of them Al Qaeder ragheads! And to think, a few pipsqueaky fifth columnists had been starting to wonder why we were killing dozens of innocent civilians on behalf of an authoritarian regime embroiled in a three-way civil war on the other side of the world.

Well, now they have their answer, by God! Alleged attempted terrorists allegedly trained in Yemen! What else do you need — a freaking warrant or something? We would obviously be justified in nuking that desert hell-hole and everybody in it! Just think of it — some guy with some kind of something on an airplane, right there in the Heartland! You gonna stand for that? Exterminate the brutes!

Have fun and cuídate.

UPDATE, 12-31-09

On Kurt Haskell’s FBI hassle, Abdulmutallab’s possible accomplice (or handler).  Also, this shit‘s real encouraging.
